Thai Massage & Reiki
Thai Massage
Thai massage is a form of therapeutic healing based on working energy lines and pressure points, leading to deep relaxation and mental and physical balance. It originated in India, and moved into Thailand along with Buddhism in the 2nd or 3rd century BC.
Thai massage shares the same roots as yoga, and incorporates exercises directly correlated to asana (hence the alternative name 'Thai yoga massage'). It is a natural complement to yoga and yoga therapy, based on working the Sen lines, a network of energy lines and acupressure points believed to have therapeutic application for a host of emotional and physical disorders. Thai massage involves the development of Metta ('loving kindness').
Thai massage sessions with me typically last between 1 and 2 hours. The complete full body massage takes at least 90 minutes, but the session can be tailored to your specific needs. You wear stretchy, yoga-type clothes for the massage, which can be as deep, gentle, stimulating or relaxing as you wish.
I have trained in Thailand and India with teachers from the international Sunshine Network of Thai massage (Itzhak Helman, Laurino Bertelli and Lara Pearson).
Reiki
Reiki is a Japanese technique for stress reduction and relaxation that also promotes healing. It was developed in 1922 by Mikao Usui, who is said to have received the gift of Reiki after 21 days of fasting at Mount Kurama in Japan.
Working as a support mechanism to the body, Reiki is thought to re-establish a healthy flow of ki ('life force energy') throughout the system, which in turn can enhance and accelerate the body's innate healing ability. Although poorly understood by western science, many benefits of Reiki have been widely reported, including a feeling of deep peace, improved sleep, emotional balance, clarity and enhanced creativity.
A Reiki treatment with me will usually take about an hour. A one-off session or a series of sessions over 3 or more weeks may be recommended depending on your needs. Reiki is administered through the hands while you lie or sit in a comfortable position, fully clothed and covered with a blanket. It's very relaxing to receive.
I am a level 2 Reiki practitioner, attuned by Reiki Master Shanti Bosanko. Reiki enhances Thai massage and can be combined effectively with massage treatments, as well as given on its own.
